The University of Cincinnati offers several different options for baseball development. These are opportunities for High School players to learn skills that will help them progress through their career.
Don’t fall into the “trap” - a lot of hitters want to do the sexy stuff like batting practice on the field. While we do on-field batting practice at camp (video), it is a small portion of our workout. Discovering the little adjustments a hitter should make can lead to a HUGE gain during the season. It is not easy, requiring hard work and determination to be your best, but those that make the commitment will reap the rewards.
Why not just hit batting practice (BP)? Most BP consists of Block Training. The coach throws fastballs over the plate and the hitter falls into a mindless “swing at anything” approach. Our workouts include Random Training! This is where the hitter doesn’t know if it will be a fastball or curveball or change-up. As we progress, we will add in takes (non-strikes). This is NOT EASY, but translates to success on the field - a 56.7% improvement in performance. [link: https://www.gwern.net/docs/spacedrepetition/1994-hall.pdf].
