This catching series will cover all the fundamentals behind the plate with an emphasis on receiving, blocking and throwing. Catchers will go through a number of drills used at the college and professional level to prepare catchers to be successful in the game.

Weekly workouts will be held at MOELLER HIGH SCHOOL on MONDAY evenings (7-8:30 PM). Space is limited to 12 catchers. September 20 to February 7 (NOT October 25). Camp is geared towards High School players. (Non-HS players may apply with video submission and completion of evaluation with Coach Maccani).

$40 per session.
Pay in advance for four week program $144.
Refunds will be issued based on 24 hour cancellation notice.

Training focus will be on receiving, blocking & throwing. Instruction will focus on skill development. Games situations will be discussed as we go.

Receiving drills will be focused on correct framing technique, how to “steal” strikes, fastballs vs. off-speed receiving and picking. Blocking drills will be geared towards anticipating pitches in the dirt and how to control the ball in the dirt. Technique will emphasize how to cover the most range and move our body freely in the catching stance. Throwing will be instructed with consideration to players’ throwing volume this off-season. Techniques for throwing will be discussed and worked on, including footwork and exchange. How to maintain and develop arm strength will be taught using the Jaeger band series and other exercises to prevent throwing injuries will be discussed.

Other catching skills that will be worked on include fielding bunts, plays at the plate, pass balls and wild pitches.
