I have over 10 years experience coaching (High School and College) in addition to 4 years of professional baseball following my collegiate career. Over the years, I have learned from several hitting coaches and instructors about the good, the bad and the ugly in hitting instruction. My mechanical approach aligns with Coach Sprague’s philosophy at the University of Cincinnati. Coach Sprague’s experience involves working with Coastal Carolina’s assistant coach, Kevin Schnall. One of coach Schanll’s former players is now at the University of Cincinnati as well, Lee Sponseller.

In my opinion, mechanically, the swing works when we are properly loaded in our legs and hands - those two areas work as pivot points when the swing is released. The barrel launches rearward with a turn rather than a push that can result in a swing pulling across the body and in & out of the zone.

As for approach, hitters must be able to hunt “up” in the zone. This approach allows for us to be on time for the fastball but also adjust for other pitches as well. In today’s game, pitchers display velocity on the fastball and tons of spin on their off-speed. Hitters must be able to adjust on the fly and have that adjustability in their swing.

Learn more about how the mechanics of the swing are taught and applied in practice for success in the game! Attend a hitting session and find out for yourself!

I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have! Please contact me at tonymaccani@yahoo.com. Good luck! And happy hitting!
